Not all hope is lost however, as Mitsubishi has hinted that a performance flagship model is on the way with a hybrid powertrain. Given that exotics and supercars have turned to hybrid technology for additional performance in addition to fuel efficiency, the successor to the Evo might be better than ever.

No one is going to pay a premium for a Mitsubishi, people barely buy Evo's as it is.

You should change the title to "Mistsubishi has killed themselves"

My big question is how will this 10 year warranty work. That was one of the biggest reasons for buying a Mitsubishi.

"Everyone will come, everyone will come... to Mitsubishi's funeral to make sure that they stay dead."

Right, they are already at $35k base price as it is now. What will they be? $45k? No, thank you.

The Evo was the only reason Mitsubishi was tolerable to deal with. All of their other cars looking like they were designed 20 years ago. They need to take some notes from Hyundai/Kia and redesign EVERYTHING.

The one, and I mean the one car that's really good, they kill. The one with heritage and the one that gave that brand some prestige. RIP Lancer Evolution. You will be missed :(

Shit, a performance hybrid powertrain? I would be surprised if all they were asking was 45k. I wanted an Evo for the longest, but couldn't stomach the 35k price.

Yeah, not to mention Mitsu's footprint is already ridiculously small as it is, so they are going to get rid of the best car in their lineup? Yeah they really need to take a break for a bit, and just go through their entire lineup, and actually sell some cars people want to drive.

Mitsu are actually doing decent for the first time since the mid 90s here in my neck of the woods because they came out with a hybrid SUV thing that happens to mesh perfectly with the byzantine local road tax/leasing fiscal system making it very cheap for all da leaseboiz 'n' gurlz.

Unfortunately it looks like this (I didn't realize they were actually calling it Outlander)

Mitsubishi is going to be the next brand to leave the US

Hell, I considered the Evo dead when they replaced the 4g63t with the 4b11t.

And these articles have been popping up for about a year or so now, every so often. But I am not surprised. Mitsu needs to either shit or get off the pot. And it looks like they are getting off the pot.

Upside (slightly, maybe) — The prices in used Evos will drop and I can snag one for cheap(er)!!

Exactly. Are they even remotely competitive in any segment? other than with the Evo.

Honestly I would say that in the last few years, even with the Evo they've lost all relevance. I really don't see any marketing or push for an Evo, a lot of people I know don't even know it exists anymore.

No, I don't think they are. The Outlander was their last big redesign and I don't think it set any heats aflame. I think it actually got worse after they decided to divorce it from the Outlander Sport as a separate model, or whatever that strategy was.

Then beyond the Lancer, it's just the Mirage and the iMiev, which should have pretty limited appeal and have no guarantee of fun or quality. It's one of the worst lineups going right now.

I know there were articles a few years ago saying they were close to pulling out of the us market. Maybe this is phase 1.

Why would they drop? With production ceasing, wouldn't the prices go up?

Wishful thinking on my part?

But honestly, they are not collectors cars. They are overpriced from the factory. I can see how in 10-15 years maybe they hold a steady price after dropping a bit (like a nice and clean GVR4, or 3kGT VR4). But I do not think they will go UP in price after the model stops being made. Some people may want to unload them since their car is on longer in existence.

Ah gotcha, Suzuki/saturn/saab factor. And I didn't actually mean that prices would increase. I meant that depreciation would maybe slow down a little.

The prices may drop once warranty/parts/support/etc. become harder to come by. I see your point.

This of course is assuming the whole brand goes away, not just the car.
